What this website collects about you, why, who else receives it, and how to change your mind.

Who is responsible
This website is run by Michael de Lang h.o.d.n. Volt Software, Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 71719407. Volt Software is the controller for the personal data described here. For any question about your data, email michael@volt-software.nl.
In short
- Without your consent, no analytics or marketing cookies are set and LinkedIn receives nothing.
- With analytics consent, Google Analytics sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are read.
- With marketing consent, the LinkedIn Insight Tag tells LinkedIn about your visit, to measure and target LinkedIn ads.
- You can change your choice at any time with cookie settings, also linked at the bottom of every page.
What is collected and why
Server logs
The web server records each request: your IP address, the page requested, the time, the referring page and your browser's user agent. These logs are needed to deliver the site and keep it secure, for example to spot attacks. The legal basis is legitimate interest (GDPR article 6(1)(f)). Logs are deleted after 14 days. The server is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany, which processes this data on Volt Software's behalf under a data processing agreement.
If you email me, I use your name, address and message to reply and, if we work together, to prepare proposals and contracts. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering a contract, or legitimate interest for general questions. Correspondence that becomes part of the business administration is kept for seven years, as Dutch tax law requires; other email is deleted when it's no longer needed.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics shows which pages are visited and how visitors find the site. It is set up in Google's consent mode: the measurement script always loads, but until you accept analytics it sets no cookies and sends Google only cookieless page-view signals (the page, time, referrer and browser details) that cannot be linked to earlier visits. Google uses these to estimate visitor numbers. The legal basis for these signals is legitimate interest; for the cookies it's your consent (article 6(1)(a)). Advertising features are switched off and IP addresses are not stored. Google keeps the event data for two months.
Google Ireland Limited processes this data. Google may transfer it to the United States, where Google is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See Google's privacy policy.
LinkedIn Insight Tag
Only if you accept marketing cookies, the site loads LinkedIn's Insight Tag. It tells LinkedIn which pages you visited, together with your IP address, browser details and LinkedIn cookies. If you're signed in to LinkedIn, LinkedIn can link the visit to your account. Volt Software uses this to see how LinkedIn ads perform, to see aggregated and anonymous statistics about the professions and industries of visitors, and to show LinkedIn ads to people who visited the site. Volt Software never sees which LinkedIn members visited. The legal basis is your consent.
Volt Software and LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company are jointly responsible for collecting and sending this data; LinkedIn is responsible for what it does with it afterwards. LinkedIn may transfer data to the United States, where its parent company Microsoft is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See LinkedIn's privacy policy and cookie policy.
